Manchester United’s young player, Joe Hugill, has committed to a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2026. Despite not having made an appearance for the senior team, the 20-year-old showcased his scoring abilities during a friendly match against Leeds in the pre-season.
Additionally, he has consistently found the back of the net while playing for the Under-18 and Under-21 squads since joining Manchester United from Sunderland in 2020.
Although Hugill has been on the fringes of Erik ten Hag’s first team, he has recently been included on the substitutes’ bench for Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup matches. Last season, the striker had a loan spell with Altrincham in the National League, where he managed to score a goal.
The new contract ensures that Hugill will remain at Old Trafford until 2026, with the possibility of extending for an additional year. Manchester United expressed their satisfaction with Hugill’s progress, noting that he has trained regularly with the senior team and has been named on the bench four times, including in the recent Emirates FA Cup third-round victory against Wigan Athletic on Monday night.
According to reports, Hugill is expected to be loaned to League One side Burton Albion after signing his new contract with Manchester United. Burton Albion, managed by Gary Mills, currently holds the 17th position in the third tier of English football.
