Prior to kick-off, the fans filled Anfield stadium, singing in unison the iconic anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” to pay tribute to manager Jurgen Klopp. The official FA Cup Twitter account shared a video clip with a warning: “This video will make you cry.”
Initially, Jurgen Klopp looked at the team’s supporters from the dugout with a radiant smile. However, as the match began and The Kop started singing the hit song “I Feel Fine” by The Beatles as a tribute to the German coach, tears welled up in his eyes. Klopp choked up and then broke into a smile, overwhelmed by the fans’ affection.
On January 26th, Klopp surprised everyone by announcing his decision to leave Liverpool after nine years of being with the club. During his tenure, Klopp brought a collection of titles to Anfield, including Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup trophies.
However, the news of Klopp’s departure after the 2023/24 season left Liverpool fans feeling nostalgic. The players of the Merseyside club have been creating beautiful memories together during Klopp’s time there.
In the current season, Klopp and his team still have chances to conquer titles in various competitions. They are currently leading the Premier League table, have advanced to the fifth round of the FA Cup, reached the Carabao Cup final, and qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League.
Returning to the FA Cup fourth-round match, Liverpool showcased their superior strength by dominating Norwich City with a convincing 5-2 victory. Curtis Jones (16′), Darwin Nunez (28′), Diogo Jota (53′), Virgil van Dijk (63′), and Ryan Gravenberch (90+5′) all found the back of the net for Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Norwich City managed to score two goals through Benjamin Gibson (22′) and Borja Sainz (69′).
With this comfortable win over Norwich City, Liverpool secured their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup after a year of absence.
