Conor Bradley shines in Liverpool’s victory over Chelsea, prompting suggestions for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to midfield

In the match between Liverpool and Chelsea in round 22 of the 2023/24 Premier League, the home team won 4-1. Notably, young talent Bradley shined with a goal and a double assist to help Liverpool get 3 points against Chelsea.

Even though both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson returned, coach Jurgen Klopp still benched them both so Liverpool could continue to play with two full-backs Joe Gomez – Conor Bradley. Right-back Bradley has played very well since being used in the first team and he showed that it will not be easy for Trent to regain his official position because this guy had a very good match against Chelsea.

With extremely impressive form, Liverpool as always pressed their opponents after the opening whistle. Opportunities came continuously for Liverpool when Nunez kicked the ball, hit the goalkeeper’s hand, then bounced off the bar and hit the post.

It wasn’t until the 23rd minute that Liverpool took the lead. Bradley stole the ball from Chilwell before passing it to Jota. The Portuguese star spontaneously passed the ball past two midfielders Thiago Silva and Badiashile to score the opening goal for Liverpool. In the 39th minute, Bradley directly put his name on the electronic board when he scored a dangerous cross-angle shot to give Liverpool a 2-0 lead, also his first goal for Liverpool’s first team. Before the end of the first half, Jota had a head cross and was fouled by Badiashile in the Chelsea penalty area, the opportunity was given to Darwin Nunez. However, Nunez failed to shoot the ball and hit the post.

In the second half, the situation on the field did not change much. Chelsea tried to hold the ball and limit Liverpool’s coordination ability but did not get the expected results. The super expensive midfielder pair Enzo Fernandez – Caicedo is almost “missing” in front of Liverpool’s midfield. In the 65th minute, Bradley made Klopp “crazy” again with a cross for Szoboszlai to head in to increase the score to 3-0 before being replaced.

Chelsea’s subsequent efforts also paid off when they scored to shorten the score to 1-3 in the 71st minute after Nkunku’s very wise handling in the Liverpool penalty area.

However, the 3-goal gap was restored in the 79th minute after Nunez crossed from the left wing for Diaz to cushion the ball from close range, sealing a 4-1 victory for Liverpool. Defeating Chelsea, Liverpool is at the top of the table, 5 points ahead of Man City even though Guardiola’s team has one match left.
