Liverpool player ratings vs Arsenal: Defensive blunders gift Gunners victory, compounded by Konate’s red card

Liverpool’s chance to strengthen their grip on the Premier League title race slipped away as defensive errors from key players, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, gifted Arsenal a 3-1 victory.

In the first half, Arsenal dominated, with Bukayo Saka scoring after Alisson’s save from Kai Havertz. A fortunate own goal from Gabriel Magalhaes brought Liverpool level. However, a mix-up between Van Dijk and Alisson in the second half allowed Gabriel Martinelli to secure Arsenal’s victory.

Alisson Becker (1/10): Unfortunate parry led to Arsenal’s opener, major mistake in the second goal, and Trossard’s effort went through his legs.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (5/10): Struggled with Martinelli’s pace, some eye-catching passes, but not at his best. Early substitution hints at potential fitness concerns.

Ibrahima Konate (3/10): Beaten for pace, initially booked, made key blocks, but sent off late for a second yellow.

Virgil van Dijk (2/10): Dragged out of position for the opener, mishandled the ball for the second goal, one superb block couldn’t salvage the poor performance.

Joe Gomez (6/10): Solid defensively but unable to contribute offensively. Booked.

Curtis Jones (6/10): Carried the ball well, but influence waned when forced deeper in the second half.

Alexis Mac Allister (6/10): Initially struggled but got a grip on midfield. Fired narrowly wide with long-range efforts.

Ryan Gravenberch (4/10): Easily shrugged off, contributed to Liverpool’s equalizer, but offered little else.

Cody Gakpo (5/10): Showed glimpses but struggled to make an impact. Substituted before the hour-mark.

Diogo Jota (5/10): Poor first touch, spent long periods out of the game despite positional changes.

Luis Diaz (5/10): Frustrated in the first half, forced errors for the equalizer, improved after the break but couldn’t create notable chances.

Andrew Robertson (6/10): Showed energy but created little.

Darwin Nunez (4/10): Bright early but grew frustrated with erratic shooting and dissent late on.

Harvey Elliott (4/10): Ran into blind alleys, contributed to Trossard’s third goal.

Thiago Alcantara (N/A): Rusty in his return.

Jurgen Klopp (5/10): Not responsible for individual errors but questionable decisions in the starting lineup and early substitutions.
