Kylian Mbappe faced boos when substituted as PSG trailed at home, but his replacement became the hero

PSG’s winning streak across all competitions came to a halt at 5 as they were held to a draw on their home turf, Parc des Princes. Despite being selected in the starting lineup by coach Luis Enrique, Mbappe had a poor performance.

The French striker was substituted in the 65th minute when PSG was trailing. As he left the field, Mbappe faced criticism and jeers from many PSG fans. Le Parisien reported that the disappointment of the club’s supporters was not solely based on Mbappe’s performance against Rennes. They were disappointed because the player has decided to leave the club as a free agent in the coming summer.

Mbappe himself appeared visibly unhappy with being substituted early in a situation where the team needed goals. The 1998-born forward even threw the captain’s armband towards his teammate Vitinha with an indifferent gesture. Many PSG fans criticized Mbappe for not directly handing over the armband to the captain after leaving the field. After receiving the armband from Mbappe, Vitinha approached and gave it back to his teammate Danilo Pereira, who was standing nearby.

Ramos, on the other hand, took matters into his own hands and successfully converted a penalty, rescuing PSG. The reigning Ligue 1 champions faced difficulties against Rennes. They even came close to losing if not for the successful penalty kick by Goncalo Ramos in the 90+7th minute.

Rennes took the lead in the 33rd minute through Amine Gouiri’s goal. On a day when PSG’s attacking players all disappointed, the Parisian club struggled. However, PSG still remains in control of the Ligue 1 title race. They still sit comfortably at the top with 54 points after 23 matches, leading second-placed Brest by a margin of 9 points.

Brest has been a surprise package in Ligue 1 this season, performing exceptionally well in recent times. In this round, they defeated Strasbourg with a scoreline of 3-0.
