Liverpool player ratings: Harvey Elliott shines as three others impress in victory over Southampton

Liverpool secured their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after goals from academy talents Lewis Koumas and Jayden Danns propelled them to victory, setting up a clash against Manchester United. The match marked another impressive display from Jürgen Klopp’s young players.

Harvey Elliott and Lewis Koumas were among the impressive performers for Liverpool as it knocked Southampton out of the FA Cup.

Koumas, just 18 years old, opened the scoring shortly before halftime with a well-taken strike into the corner, giving Liverpool a 1-0 lead. Although Southampton had their chances, they couldn’t find a way past goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher, and Liverpool were fortunate to be ahead.

In the second half, Danns replaced Koumas and made an immediate impact. Assisted by Harvey Elliott, Danns calmly lifted the ball over the goalkeeper to score his first senior goal for Liverpool. He later added a second by following up on a Conor Bradley shot.

Winners:
Koumas and Danns will be full of confidence after scoring their first goals for Liverpool. Bobby Clark also had an excellent performance in midfield.

Losers:
Cody Gakpo had a relatively quiet showing and could have done more, but the job was done regardless.
