Chelsea captain Reece James has shared exciting news with fans, announcing that he is making progress in his recovery from a long-term injury. Taking to his personal social media page, the winger posted an update stating, “Despite the setbacks, I’m getting closer to making my comeback,” along with images of him training on the field, undergoing treatment, and posing with teammates Enzo Fernández and Marc Cucurella.
James has been sidelined since December 2023 after sustaining an ankle injury during a 0-2 defeat against Everton in the 16th round of the Premier League. Since then, the English international has been diligently focused on his rehabilitation, resulting in just nine appearances for the club this season. As a key player for Chelsea and the England national team, James’ update brings immense joy to both The Blues and his national supporters.
Regrettably, James has faced significant injury challenges throughout his career. After featuring in 32 Premier League matches during the 2020/21 season, he has missed a total of 74 games for Chelsea since the start of the subsequent 2021/22 season.
Known for his exceptional defensive skills and impactful contributions to the attack, the 24-year-old right-back is an indispensable asset for Chelsea. His remarkable physical strength also makes him a formidable obstacle against opposing teams’ attacks. Furthermore, James possesses great versatility and can seamlessly adapt to playing as a center-back in a three-man defensive system, adding flexibility to manager Pochettino’s tactical options.
While James will be unable to participate in Chelsea’s upcoming match against Brentford in the 27th round of the Premier League, his return is eagerly anticipated in crucial upcoming fixtures against rivals such as Arsenal and Manchester United.
