Wednesday provided a good reminder that just because you have a piece of memorabilia connected to Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani doesn’t mean you’re sitting on a goldmine.
The Los Angeles Times’ Bill Shaikin pointed to an autographed foul ball from 2021 purportedly from Ohtani that carries a price tag of nearly $15,000:
That price may not reflect its market value based on what’s offer through MLB’s official auction site.
This may not be an ideal time to cash in on any Ohtani collectibles, either, with the two-time MVP still ensnared in the gambling scandal surrounding his longtime interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara. He steadfastly denied having bet on sports, directly or through an intermediary, but remains under investigation by MLB.
The at-bat in which Ohtani hit the foul ball in question ended in a strikeout. Trying to get five figures for it will probably meet the same outcome.
