Player ratings for Manchester United as Alejandro Garnacho and Antony shine despite the defeat against Chelsea

Man United were beaten by Chelsea in the Premier League and here are how the players rated at Stamford Bridge.

Andre Onana

Allowed another stoppable shot but initiated the play that led to Bruno Fernandes’ equalizing goal. Made several saves in the second half. Rating: 6.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Back at right back and arguably better in attack than defence as he rekindled his unlikely alliance with Antony. Soldiered on after getting hurt. 7

Raphael Varane

Did his best to hold the defense together but had to be substituted due to injury at half-time for the second consecutive game, with Jonny Evans taking his place. Rating: 6.

Harry Maguire

Had the odd shaky moment but showed resilience and grew as the game wore on, offering United an attacking outlet through his adventure. 8

Diogo Dalot

Had difficulties containing the agile Cole Palmer initially but redeemed himself by delivering an excellent cross for Fernandes. Showed more stability in the second half until conceding a late penalty in added time. Rating: 4.

Casemiro

Reduced to some desperate sliding tackles, often exposed and got away with one late in the first half. More solid in the second. 6

Kobbie Mainoo

Delivered elegant passes, showcasing an improvement from his performance against Brentford, in a grueling match for United’s midfielders. Rating: 6.

Antony

Despite naively conceding a penalty, this was one of his standout performances for United. He played a part in both first-half goals and magnificently assisted Garnacho. Rating: 8.

Bruno Fernandes

Scored a captain’s goal to equalise in the 39th minute and his direct passes beckoned United to chase a goal. 7

Alejandro Garnacho

Calmly converted from Moises Caicedo’s unexpected pass in his 28th consecutive start for United, and expertly headed in to give them a 3-2 lead. Rating: 8.

Rasmus Hojlund

Left Dalot’s cross for Fernandes to head in. Put a shift in but never looked like putting the ball in the back of the net. 5

Subs

Jonny Evans

Was performing excellently until he also had to come off injured. 7

Willy Kambwala

Steadily filled in at centre half. 7

Marcus Rashford

Went up front. 5

Scott McTominay

Deflected the ball in. 5

Mason Mount

Maintained composure amidst the chorus of boos. Rating: 7.

Manager

Selected a predominantly logical lineup, and the decision to recall Antony was justified as the Brazilian delivered one of his finest performances for United.
