Manchester United held Liverpool to a draw at home in a 4-goal match, part of round 32 of the 2023/24 Premier League.
The highlight match of Matchday 32 in the Premier League between Manchester United and Liverpool unfolded with a crazy scenario.
Right from the early minutes, Jurgen Klopp’s team exerted tremendous pressure on Manchester United’s half of the field. In the 23rd minute, from Darwin Nunez’s backward header, Luis Diaz cleverly moved before unleashing a powerful volley into the net past goalkeeper Onana.
After taking the lead, the Reds played with even more confidence and continuously bombarded MU’s goal. In the first half, Liverpool unleashed up to 15 shots aimed at Onana’s goal. Meanwhile, MU couldn’t manage to execute any shots in the first half.
After halftime, Liverpool remained the dominant side, controlling the majority of possession.
However, the surprise came in the 50th minute when Liverpool defender Jarell Quansah made a straight pass to Bruno Fernandes’ feet. Seeing the goal empty after goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher came forward, the Portuguese midfielder immediately launched a long-range shot from 40 meters to equalize 1-1 for Man United.
Continuing their momentum, MU caused Old Trafford to erupt as they took the lead 2-1 in the 67th minute. Kobbie Mainoo received the ball on the edge of the penalty area, before turning and shooting into the far corner of Liverpool’s goal, with goalkeeper Kelleher flying at full stretch but unable to stop it.
After conceding two quick goals, The Kop had no choice but to push their lineup forward for an all-out attack. Their efforts paid off when Harvey Elliott earned a penalty in the 83rd minute. From the penalty spot, Mohamed Salah made no mistake to equalize the score 2-2.
In the remaining minutes, both teams played with great effort but no further goals were scored. In the end, Man United shared the points with Liverpool with a score of 2-2.
With this result, MU remains in 6th place with 49 points, trailing the top 4 by 11 points with one game in hand. On the other hand, this damaging draw has seen Jurgen Klopp’s troops drop to 2nd place in the table. The Reds have the same 71 points as Arsenal but are behind on goal difference.
