Andre Onana’s strange actions in the match between MU and Liverpool

In the first half of a match at Old Trafford, fans noticed Andre Onana applying cream to his gloves. According to the Daily Mail, this was Vaseline, a moisturizing cream for the skin. However, the Cameroonian goalkeeper applied it directly to the inside of the gloves.

“This type of cream is often used by some goalkeepers to help the gloves have a high level of adhesion. However, this moisturizing cream can be harmful to the surface of the gloves, causing them to deteriorate faster than usual,” the English newspaper explained.

This is not the first time Onana has used Vaseline cream to apply to his gloves. Previously, fans also noticed the 1996-born goalkeeper doing the same thing in a match against West Ham at the end of 2023.

Onana continued to deliver an impressive performance. Although he couldn’t help MU secure a victory, the former Inter goalkeeper earned praise with 6 saves, notably his effort to block Dominik Szoboszlai’s shot in the 3rd minute. Even Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had words of praise for Onana after this impressive save.

From being a goalkeeper prone to mistakes, Onana has significantly improved his performance in the second half of the 2023/24 season. The €52 million contract brought peace of mind in the goalkeeping position. Furthermore, his accurate distribution also made opponents wary, preventing them from pushing their lineup too high for pressing, as they did when David De Gea was the main goalkeeper for the “Red Devils”.

Onana played well but not enough to help MU secure 3 points. The 2-2 draw result almost eliminates the team’s chance of reaching the top 4 at Old Trafford. At this point, they are trailing Tottenham by 11 points.
