After the 1-0 victory against Atalanta and being eliminated from the quarter-finals of the C2 cup, coach Jurgen Klopp had some shares with the media.
To lose 0-3 to Atalanta in the first leg pushed Liverpool into a corner for the second leg, despite playing at home. However, Jurgen Klopp’s squad couldn’t do much except for Salah’s lone goal from the penalty spot. After the two legs, The Kop suffered defeat with a total score of 1-3, officially bidding farewell to this season’s Europa League at the quarter-finals.
Sharing after the match, Coach Klopp said: “I loved the way we started the game. We didn’t lose the match tonight, but we lost at home. Congratulations to Atalanta because they deserved to go through as they beat us 3-1, they fully deserved to go through. But anyway, I’m satisfied with today’s match, especially in the first half.”
Klopp is pleased with Liverpool’s performance at Atalanta’s home ground.
The biggest issue for us in the second half was not being able to maintain the tempo. We can do that regularly, but tonight it wasn’t as easy. If we could have kept a higher and longer tempo, things might have been different. In the first half, Atalanta pressed really high, similar to the end of the match, in the middle of the game they didn’t press, but that wasn’t the difference.”
Coach Jurgen Klopp continued to share: “It’s clear that we created a big barrier for ourselves. It was really tough, and we were too hasty at times. I really liked tonight’s match, with the desire and strength the boys showed. It’s unbelievable from them. We won the match, and that’s what we wanted to show, but Atalanta deserved to win, 100%. We’re out, but I’m really pleased with this game. We wished we could go to Dublin, but that didn’t happen.
Salah scored the only goal for Liverpool from the penalty spot.
Besides, when asked about Salah’s form, the player who scored the only goal for Liverpool but also missed quite a few opportunities, Klopp said: “I’m not particularly concerned. That’s what forwards do, that’s what happens with forwards, it’s just how it is. We have to go through this today, and Salah has to go through it too. He’s one of the most experienced players we have in the team.
Salah has missed chances before in his career; it’s part of football. He executed the penalty convincingly, a top-notch penalty. Next are the chances; obviously, Salah was unlucky, but this isn’t the first time he’s missed chances like this. I won’t make a big deal out of it; what you think about it clearly doesn’t concern me, and I don’t care about it.”
