On the evening of April 24th, Manchester United defeated Sheffield 4-2 in the rescheduled match of Premier League’s 29th round, thus rising to 6th position.
Hojbjerg scores again after 8 goalless matches.
At Old Trafford, Manchester United created a shameful statistic as they conceded twice to bottom-placed Sheffield. Prior to this, “The Blades” had only scored two goals away from home once, in a match against Bournemouth.
Both goals conceded by “The Red Devils” came from defensive errors. In the 35th minute, Andre Onana passed straight to Jayden Bogle’s feet. The Sheffield player seized the opportunity, slotting the ball past the home team from a tight angle.
By the 50th minute, four MU players stood in front of Brereton Diaz but still allowed the Sheffield player to tap in from close range, roofing it past Onana.
Despite scoring two goals, Sheffield quickly showed why they have the worst defense in Europe this season. MU wasted numerous opportunities but still managed to score four goals against the visitors.
Harry Maguire shone with a header to pull one back to 1-2, then won a penalty for Bruno Fernandes to equalize 2-2 for Man Utd in the 61st minute.
In the remaining part of the match, MU added two more goals to seal a 4-2 victory. In the 81st minute, Bruno Fernandes completed his brace with a classy long-range shot. Four minutes later, the Portuguese midfielder broke through and delivered a precise cross, helping Rasmus Hojlund end his 8-match goal drought across all competitions.
At the same time, Newcastle surprisingly lost to Crystal Palace 0-2. MU climbed to 6th place, a position that secures their ticket to the Europa League.
