Man United is willing to consider offers for nearly the entire squad this summer, except for 3 players.
Hojlund, Garnacho, and Mainoo are considered the future of Man United.
It’s not surprising that Rasmus Hojlund, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho are the only three players at Manchester United guaranteed a future this summer.
After a disappointing season, Man United may undergo significant changes in leadership and personnel in an effort to return to the Champions League. While theoretically, the Red Devils still have a chance to qualify for Europe’s premier club competition, the likelihood is very low.
Erik ten Hag’s team is likely to finish in 6th or 7th place. Compared to their 3rd place finish last season, this is a significant decline. In fact, Man United has lost 12 matches in the Premier League this season, their worst record since 1992.
With an early exit from the Champions League, pressure is mounting on Erik ten Hag. Amid uncertainty about the Dutch manager’s future, Man United is still planning to overhaul the squad. Only three stars at Old Trafford will not be sold, regardless of the circumstances.
Ratcliffe is not satisfied with the current squad of Manchester United.
“The Red Devils are ready to listen to offers for all first-team players, except for Hojlund, Mainoo, and Garnacho. So what leads Manchester United to this decision?
Hojlund, who joined from Atalanta for a fee of up to £72 million last summer, still has 4 years left on his contract and has great potential. Despite a shaky start, the 21-year-old forward scored 14 goals in his debut season in England. And simply put, Manchester United has no reason to sell such a player.
As for Mainoo, the English international is having a breakthrough season and is a key figure for Manchester United at the moment. The 19-year-old has started in the last 18 Premier League matches and is considered a “gem” at Old Trafford.
Garnacho is perhaps the only case with more doubts. The Argentine forward has contributed to 11 goals in 32 appearances this season. However, the issue is that Garnacho is only 19 years old and has a bright future ahead. This young forward also consistently performs explosively on the field and often scores spectacular goals, such as his goal against Everton.
The commonality among these three players is that they are all young – 21 years old or younger – and have the potential to become one of the best players in the world in their positions. Therefore, there is no doubt about Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s decision.
For some other key players of the Red Devils, their future is not guaranteed for various reasons. The sale of Bruno Fernandes, Andre Onana, and Diogo Dalot by Manchester United is possible, but it still requires significant offers.
With 6 goals in the last 4 matches, Fernandes is still performing well as the captain of Manchester United. However, this midfielder will turn 30 in September and only has 2 years left on his contract. Consequently, if desired, this summer is the last chance for Manchester United to earn money from the Portuguese player.
As for Onana, the former Inter Milan goalkeeper has had a difficult time at Old Trafford. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has shown progress recently but has not yet provided a sense of security.”
There will be many changes at Old Trafford this summer.
Having renewed his contract less than a year ago, Dalot is likely someone Manchester United will retain. However, similar to Fernandes and Onana, the Red Devils would be persuaded to sell Dalot if there’s an attractive offer.
Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford’s situation is much more complex. Manchester United’s priority is still to keep the English striker, and this seems like a sensible decision. But if they could fetch at least £50 million for Rashford, Manchester United would reconsider. With that amount, they could recruit another promising young forward.
Some experienced players, including Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane, will leave Old Trafford when their contracts expire. Sofyan Amrabat, this midfielder will return to Fiorentina after his loan spell.
Christian Eriksen, Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Casemiro, Victor Lindelof, and Antony could be on the list to be sold. This is entirely understandable considering their form, age, or contract terms.
It is expected that Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood will also be sold outright, while Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, and Amad will have to fight to stay at Manchester United. All six mentioned players have been sidelined due to injury for most of the season.
