Declan Rice has revealed why he became angry in the Arsenal dressing room during the win over Bournemouth.
Declan Rice scored the third goal for Arsenal as the “gunners” easily defeated Bournemouth 3-0 at Emirates Stadium in round 36 of the Premier League last night 4-5. However, this England international is still not completely satisfied with his own performance.
Declan Rice admitted he was very frustrated after missing some chances against Bournemouth. Interestingly, he scored the final goal to secure a 3-0 victory for Arsenal and provided an assist for Leandro Trossard’s goal. Declan Rice was also honored as the man of the match.
Despite that positive result, Declan Rice wasn’t entirely satisfied with his performance after the final whistle. Instead, the English star admitted he was very frustrated in the Arsenal dressing room, acknowledging that he had missed opportunities in the first 45 minutes.
Arsenal won “3 stars” against Bournemouth.
After the match, Declan Rice revealed on TNT Sports: “I think you saw that in the first half, it was just Arsenal dominance, to be honest with you could be four or five chances. I missed chances and to be honest, I was very frustrated. I couldn’t let it pass, I knew it was a chance for me to score.
Even with my goal, I immediately returned to my own half of the field right after the goal. I felt that, the Bournemouth players were still around, just keep pushing forward. The goal, the assist, and the three points are what Arsenal needed. I’m very happy, it’s a big success in terms of the result.”
Bournemouth is a top team and in good form. We knew today was a job and we had to get it done. You look back at the game against Aston Villa last week and we had four or five chances but didn’t in the second half.”
Arsenal beat Bournemouth 3-0, while Man City also “demolished” Wolves 5-1 right after. This means Arsenal still tops the Premier League table but they don’t have the destiny in their own hands for the title. Currently, Arsenal has 83 points, one point ahead of Man City but has played one more game. Man City just needs to win their remaining three games to become the first team in English history to win the Premier League four times in a row, regardless of whether Arsenal can get maximum points in their remaining two matches or not.
Declan Rice is disappointed with himself for missing the opportunity to score for Arsenal.
Currently, only Tottenham seems capable of halting Manchester City’s progress among the three remaining opponents for Pep Guardiola’s squad. However, Tottenham is a city rival of Arsenal. Moreover, at the time of their clash with Manchester City, Tottenham’s position in the Premier League table might have been settled (fifth place, not qualifying for the Champions League). It wouldn’t be wise for Tottenham to indirectly support their arch-rivals Arsenal in winning the Premier League.
Declan Rice believes that Arsenal will fully focus on their own task, including the challenging encounter against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the final stages of the Premier League.
Declan Rice said: “I think we can improve in the second half. We should have been calmer, Bournemouth caused a bit of chaos and we actually caused damage to ourselves. But we won 3-0 and exceeded the limit. Now, Arsenal is fully focused on the next match (against MU).
I wasn’t at Arsenal last season, but this year I can feel that we are embracing it. Man City is a machine, they win most of the matches but we can only focus on ourselves. We have been doing that recently.”
“We’ve had an unbelievable year in 2024, I think the records we’ve achieved are beyond imagination. Anything can happen in football, miracles can happen, surprises can happen. We just need to stay focused.”
Declan Rice’s finishing goal set the score 3-0 for Arsenal.
Arsenal will conclude the Premier League season with an away trip to Manchester United and face Everton at home at the Emirates Stadium in the next two weeks. Meanwhile, Man City will encounter Fulham and Tottenham away from home and play their final Premier League fixture against West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.
