LOS ANGELES — Shohei Ohtani was named National League player of the week on Monday, the first Dodgers player to win the award this season, after a strong week at the plate for the designated hitter.
Ohtani hit .524/.583/.952, going 11-for-21 last week with three home runs, seven RBI, six runs scored, and two stolen bases in five games against the D-backs and Braves. After sitting on Wednesday for the first time this season, coupled with Thursday’s off day, Ohtani was especially strong over the weekend, with eight hits in 12 at-bats in the Dodgers’ sweep of Atlanta.
On Saturday, Ohtani passed manager Dave Roberts for most home runs by a Dodger born in Japan, on the same day Roberts shared that Ohtani bought him a toy Porsche for the accomplishment. Then on Sunday, Ohtani homered twice for his first multi-homer game with the Dodgers and 17th of his career. It was part of a four-hit game for Ohtani, tying his career best.
Ohtani’s last home run on Sunday — his 10th of the season, tying him for the major league lead — was measured at 464 feet, his longest of the season and third-longest in his career.
This is the eighth career player of the week honor for Ohtani, who won seven such awards with the Angels — two as a rookie in 2018, two in 2021, and three in 2023.
