Former Man United goalkeeper David de Gea is surprising “Red Devils” fans with his latest move.
De Gea wears a Man United shirt when training
De Gea recently returned to training after a prolonged break. The Spanish goalkeeper attracted attention when he wore the jersey of his former club, Manchester United, during a training session at the Altrincham training center. The 33-year-old goalkeeper focused on honing his skills in catching, reflexes, and diving during the session. He was accompanied by three other specialists.
De Gea’s action has piqued the curiosity of Manchester United fans. The former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper has been without a club for quite some time since parting ways with Old Trafford after a 12-year association.
De Gea caused a stir when he wore a Man United kit during practice
“Could there be a chance that De Gea returns after a change in manager?” posed one fan.
In De Gea’s final season with Manchester United, he kept a clean sheet in 17 Premier League matches and won the Golden Glove award. De Gea’s save percentage in the Premier League was 71.1% – a remarkably impressive statistic.
Despite this, the Spanish goalkeeper is currently without a club. He is said to have attracted interest from teams in the Premier League and Saudi Arabia since leaving Old Trafford.
Spanish media also revealed that De Gea is a target for Barcelona. Recent sources indicate that the 33-year-old player wants to play for a La Liga club before retiring.
In another development, Manchester United legend Edwin van der Sar recently expressed support for De Gea. The former goalkeeper recalled a similar situation he faced after leaving Juventus in 2001, eventually joining Fulham before moving to Old Trafford and winning the Champions League.
Commenting on another training clip posted by De Gea, Van der Sar wrote: “David, stay strong and have faith, as I did something similar in 2001 and look where it got me in the end!”
Meanwhile, Liverpool legend Graeme Souness recently stated that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag made a mistake by letting this goalkeeper leave Old Trafford and bringing in Andre Onana.
