Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s manager, is preparing for his final two matches in charge before leaving Anfield this summer. The German strategist believes he should have utilized Harvey Elliott more in his final season.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admits one of his regrets is that Harvey Elliott didn’t get more playing time under his tenure. The 21-year-old has made 117 appearances, with about half of them coming off the bench, since his debut in 2019. Elliott has played in 51 matches this season, the most in any season at Liverpool. Recent performances have shown Elliott at the peak of his career, and Klopp wishes he could have given him more opportunities.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said, “It’s not like I go back and think, ‘Where did we go wrong here?’ but if I regret one little bit, it’s probably that Harvey Elliott didn’t play often enough.
“In a very important and intense period in January when we had a lot of injuries, Harvey Elliott played really well, probably our outstanding player even though he’s a right winger, or wherever. It’s great that he could show that.”
Klopp was asked by the media if Elliott’s late-season form could earn him a call-up to the England squad for Euro 2024 after his impressive performances for the England U-21 team over the past year.
Klopp admitted his mistake for not using Elliott more.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp responded, “If it helps Harvey Elliott or anything, I’ll say it, but there will be a discussion from the public. Although Harvey Elliott didn’t do anything wrong, some people will find reasons why he shouldn’t be there (with the England squad for Euro).
“Then the lad reads it and feels bad. If someone wants to pick Harvey Elliott, he has everything you need. You can pack your bags immediately. It’s not a problem, but I won’t get involved in that discussion.”
