Shohei Ohtani hadn’t had many opportunities to hit at the home of the San Francisco Giants — Oracle Park. He’d played only three games there in his career prior to Monday night and in those three games had registered 10 plate appearances without a hit. It didn’t take him long to get his first hit there in the Dodgers’ series opener vs. the Giants in San Francisco.
After Mookie Betts led off the game with a home run, Ohtani stepped in fresh off an off day Sunday and smoked the first pitch he saw to centerfield for a base hit. Statcast had it at a scorching 106 miles per hour off the bat.
Ohtani was stranded at first, but he’s no longer hitless at the home stadium of the Dodgers’ biggest rival. He’s now 1-for-9 lifetime there with two walks and two strikeouts.
Something tells us that first knock at Oracle Park won’t be his last.
