Jurgen Klopp gave an emotional speech to bid farewell to Liverpool fans after nearly a decade with the club.
Finally, the day has come for Jurgen Klopp to part ways with Liverpool. The nearly 9-year journey filled with many bittersweet memories has made the farewell between Klopp and Liverpool incredibly emotional.
He believes Liverpool is ready for an exciting new era after his departure and wants fans to continue supporting his successor, Arne Slot.
The positive thing for Liverpool is that no matter who leaves, the club is still in a very, very good position,” Klopp said in a message to the fans before his final match in charge of Liverpool against Wolves in the 38th round of the Premier League. “This season, we aimed for the moon and ended up among the stars. That’s not too bad, and all the players on the team are top-class, world-class individuals.
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp greeted the fans after the 4-1 victory over Chelsea in the 22nd round of the Premier League at Anfield on January 31.
Earlier, in a press conference on May 17, Slot confirmed he would take over Liverpool from Klopp starting in the 2024-2025 season. The Dutch coach is highly regarded for leading Feyenoord to the 2021-2022 Conference League final and winning the Dutch league in 2022-2023. This season, he and Feyenoord won the Dutch Cup and secured second place in the Dutch league.
According to Klopp, with the new coaching staff, Liverpool is ready for an exciting new direction, rather than an end. “This is something I have always known about Liverpool, the club is always ready to embark on adventures, some ending in titles and some not. But whatever happens, there are always unforgettable stories and moments,” the German coach expressed.
On January 26, Klopp announced he would part ways with Liverpool after the 2023-2024 season due to exhaustion and confirmed he would not manage any other Premier League club. During his more than eight years at Liverpool, he won eight titles, including the Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and two EFL Cups.
“During my time here, we were fortunate to win quite a few titles, and what we have achieved has always been underpinned by a stable, wise, and creative foundation,” Klopp said. “I am grateful for this and also very excited because I know this will continue. That can only be good news for Liverpool.”
Jurgen Klopp lifted the Champions League trophy with Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on June 1, 2019.
Liverpool has meticulously prepared an emotional tribute and farewell for Klopp before, during, and after the match against Wolves at Anfield today. This has created a ticket frenzy, with Anfield tickets being sold online for nearly $2,000. Klopp acknowledged that fans would need time to get used to his departure, but he wants them to continue giving his successor at Liverpool the same support and love he has received since taking charge in October 2015.
“Finally, I want to thank and send my love to the fans,” Klopp conveyed. “Everything we have done is for you, with you, and because of you. I have often mentioned the banner ‘Unity is strength,’ and I believe this is a conviction we all share. I hope my successor will have as wonderful a time as I have had. After the Wolves match, I will also become a Liverpool fan, so I hope I can play my part in that.”
