It’s unclear whether Darwin Nunez had any conflict with Coach Jurgen Klopp, but the Uruguayan forward did not clap to thank the German coach.
After the match between Liverpool and Wolves in the final round of the 2023/24 Premier League season came to an end, The Reds organized a farewell ceremony for Coach Klopp at Anfield.
Here, Liverpool players and staff formed a guard of honor, clapping together as Klopp emerged from the tunnel. Everyone enthusiastically applauded to show their gratitude to the German coach, but the camera captured Nunez as the only one who did not join in.
The former Benfica striker stood behind Luis Diaz and Alexis Mac Allister, with his hands clasped together in front of him, watching as Klopp walked past.
Nunez’s reaction when Klopp left the club
Even in the clip where Klopp bids farewell to his players in the Liverpool dressing room, Nunez can be seen looking downcast, with his hand on his head, appearing disheartened. This raises concerns that Nunez may not be satisfied with the coach.
Against Wolves, Nunez came on for the final 19 minutes but failed to make much of an impact. The latter part of this season has seen Nunez struggle, as he has gone goalless in the last 8 Premier League matches. The last time the 24-year-old forward scored for Liverpool was against Sheffield United on April 4th.
Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica in the summer of 2022 for 85 million euros. However, he has never lived up to expectations, scoring only 33 goals in 96 appearances for Liverpool. Currently, Nunez still has a contract with Liverpool until 2028.
