Darwin Núñez has broken his silence following hints of a potential transfer to Liverpool and his notable absence from clapping Jürgen Klopp. The striker, who spent the end of the season on the bench under Klopp’s management, has recently fueled transfer speculation amidst rumored interest from Barcelona.
Darwin Núñez has acknowledged that he’s been affected by negative comments and criticism following a challenging end to the season. The Liverpool forward, who scored only once in over two months in the Premier League, found himself out of Jürgen Klopp’s starting lineup by the campaign’s conclusion.
Núñez further fueled speculation about a potential transfer by removing Liverpool-related content from his social media profiles. He faced undue abuse following some subpar performances and took steps to block fan accounts associated with the Reds.
Reportedly, Núñez has attracted interest from Barcelona, as per SPORT, although incoming manager Arne Slot is said to consider him a key player.
Núñez emphasizes that he endeavors to block out any negativity directed his way and remains confident in his ability to silence his critics. Speaking to Por la Jersey (via Liverpool World), he acknowledges that criticism is an inevitable part of being a professional athlete but asserts that he no longer allows negative comments to affect him.
He admits that previously, he paid too much attention to such remarks, which did impact him. However, he now chooses to ignore both negative and positive comments, focusing instead on his family for support. Núñez believes in the concept of revenge on the pitch, where he can respond to any setbacks with improved performances.
Following Sunday’s win over Wolves, Núñez drew attention for not clapping Klopp during the guard of honor at Anfield. Despite this, he maintains a positive relationship with the German coach, recalling Klopp’s supportive words after his pivotal goal against Nottingham Forest in March.
During that game, Núñez faced taunting chants from the home fans but ultimately scored a crucial goal. Reflecting on the incident, he shares that he didn’t understand the chants at the time and was uplifted by Klopp’s encouragement in the locker room afterward, which motivated him to overcome the negativity.
