Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold share the same thoughts regarding Arne Slot’s aspirations at Liverpool – ‘We have complete faith in the club’ while ‘I’m very curious and always have a lot of questions’

Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold have both been asked about the future under Arne Slot. The Reds pair share the same thoughts this summer.

Arne Slot is poised to assume control at Liverpool, stepping into the sizable shoes left behind by Jürgen Klopp, who departed after an illustrious eight and a half years at the helm. Slot’s transition from Feyenoord to Liverpool was facilitated by an $11 million (£9.4 million/€12 million) compensation package, signaling a significant move for both parties. While Slot aims for a seamless handover on June 1, two key players, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, have acknowledged that such a transition is not guaranteed.

Liverpool is preparing for a new chapter under Slot’s leadership, following Klopp’s successful tenure marked by numerous trophies. With the 2024/25 season on the horizon, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold shared their perspectives on the impending changes while attending the Monaco Grand Prix.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Van Dijk expressed cautious optimism about the transition: “I have complete trust in the club and the decisions being made for the future. It’s also exciting. Change always carries an element of uncertainty, but I have full confidence and am eagerly anticipating the upcoming season.”

He also addressed the team’s outlook, stating: “Certainly, but success isn’t guaranteed. That’s quite evident. We’re going to put in the hard work to make it happen, and we have a promising coach coming in, along with a strong backroom staff. We’re a talented team. Let’s wait and see.”

Earlier, Alexander-Arnold echoed similar sentiments regarding the new management under Slot: “I believe so. I have faith in the club and the appointments we’ve made. As a player, that’s all you can hope for—to trust in the decisions made by those in charge. I’m confident it will be a smooth transition.”

Meanwhile, Van Dijk was more forthcoming last week when discussing Slot and Liverpool’s future prospects: “I’m very intrigued and always have plenty of questions,” he remarked. “We’ll see.

“The Premier League and Liverpool present a different challenge, but we’re here to support him. I’ll offer my support in whatever capacity he needs. It’s about sticking together and giving him the opportunity to showcase his abilities alongside the other new arrivals.”

Liverpool opines: The players are fully supportive of Slot, and it’s evident that the Dutchman has the potential to be a significant acquisition for Anfield. Stylistically, he aligns well as Klopp’s successor, inheriting a squad brimming with talent and untapped potential. One of the top priorities this summer should be securing new contracts for Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold, as both players’ deals are set to expire in 2025.
