Shohei Ohtani Delights Fans by Sharing First-Ever Photo of his Wife

Recently, Ohtani shared a picture on his Instagram Story, showcasing himself alongside his wife, identified as former professional Japanese basketball player Mamiko Tanaka, 27.

The photo, taken on the tarmac with the Dodgers’ plane in the background, captured Ohtani, Tanaka, Ohtani’s interpreter Ippe Mizuhara, and Dodgers pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, as they embarked on their journey to Seoul for the season opener against the San Diego Padres.

In a delightful gesture, the Los Angeles MLB team also highlighted the couple in a post, featuring Mookie Betts and his wife, who had recently tied the knot. The Dodgers’ post captioned the image as “A photo of Shohei Ohtani and his wife before the flight to Korea.”

Ohtani and Tanaka were briefly glimpsed in the team’s video footage, capturing their boarding of the plane to Seoul.

Ohtani surprised the public on February 29 by announcing his sеcrеt marriage to a Japanese woman. Speaking to reporters the following day, he disclosed that he had met his wife approximately three or four years ago, with their engagement taking place in 2023. However, he refrained from revealing Tanaka’s nаme or providing specific details about their engagement or wedding on social media.

When asked if his marriage influenced his free agency decision, Ohtani responded, “No, not at all,” emphasizing that his wife respected his choices and offered her support, willing to accompany him wherever he decided to play baseball. He asserted that his priority was determining his desired baseball destination.

Standing at 5 feet, 11 inches, Tanaka, a forward, signed with the Fujitsu Red Wave in 2019. In her debut season, the Red Wave achieved a commendable regular season record of 13-3, followed by a successful 2021 campaign, concluding at 17-3 and culminating in the team reaching the finals after winning the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. In her final season, Tanaka played 28 games, boasting a 47.7% field goal success rate and converting 69.9% of her free throws.
