Roy Keane heavily criticized Andy Robertson in his post-match analysis after Scotland’s devastating 5-1 loss to Germany.
Scotland’s Euro 2024 campaign began in the worst possible way, being overwhelmed by the tournament hosts on Friday. Germany took control in the first half with goals from Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala, and Kai Havertz, giving them a commanding lead by halftime.
In the second half, substitutes Niclas Fullkrug and Emre Can added a fourth and fifth goal, sealing a significant victory for Germany.
Robertson, who faced ridicule from fans on social media for his actions early in the match, spoke to ITV following the result. The Liverpool star lamented his team’s performance, admitting they got everything ‘wrong’ in the first half.
“First half we got it all wrong. Didn’t show up, weren’t good enough,” he said.
“There was a lot of things wrong about today, we have to sort it out. It’s a quick turnaround to Tuesday.”
“If we go in there and sit back down, I don’t think we can say we played to our maximum and you have to do that.”
In the studio, Keane harshly criticized Robertson’s comments during his post-match interview, calling them ‘rubbish.’
“You’ve gotta hit people… Andy Robertson is coming out with rubbish,” he declared. “They talked about creating history, and they did—by being so bad.
“It’s no good talking about the game, ‘we had a game plan.’ It’s rubbish coming out of him. He said, ‘we’ll be angry tomorrow.’ You have to be angry for a long time.” Scotland will continue their Euro 2024 campaign next Wednesday against Switzerland, followed by a match against Hungary on June 23.
