Romania scored a goal ahead of Ukraine in the first half thanks to a very beautiful goal from captain Nicolae Stanciu. However, the biggest mistake came from Ukrainian goalkeeper Lunin and Real Madrid Club.

With the current squad, Ukraine is rated higher than Romania. Right after the opening whistle, Ukraine was the team that controlled the ball for most of the first half but they could not create clear opportunities towards Romania’s goal.

Meanwhile, Romania, although giving up the game, proved extremely annoying in counter-attacks and put pressure right from the opponent’s field.

From such a situation in the 29th minute, the Ukrainian defense was confused when suddenly pressured. Goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, after receiving a difficult pass from his teammate, cleared the ball with one touch straight to Dennis Man, who immediately passed it to Nicolae Stanciu.

The Romania captain’s powerful kick afterwards did not give Lunin a chance to touch the ball despite flying as far as he could.

Former player Ian Wright was particularly impressed by Stanciu’s goal and Lunin’s mistake – the “goalkeeper” who played extremely well at Real Madrid in the 2023/24 season.

Wright shared: “The best goal of EURO 2024? Maybe. It was a mistake by Andriy Lunin but it came from Romania’s pressing situation and uncertainty on the left wing of Ukraine.”

That was, in fact, an issue in the first half. Much of Romania’s sharp play came down the right flank, where Oleksandr Zinchenko took on the left-back role due to the injury to Vitalii Mykolenko.

“Zinchenko was kicked out of the Arsenal first team at the end of last season and perhaps coach Edward Iordanescu has realised the problem, thereby fully exploiting the area that this player holds. 1-0 for Romania is surprising but reasonable,” the former Arsenal player emphasized.
