After a disappointing 0-0 draw against Costa Rica in the opening match, Brazil were determined to win 3 points and they accelerated their attack from the first minutes against Paraguay. However, facing the opponent’s solid defense, the “Samba dancers” were completely deadlocked.
In the 31st minute, Brazil was awarded a penalty kick when a Paraguay defender handled the ball in the penalty area. But Lucas Paqueta kicked the ball wide when assigned to take the penalty.
Both Neymar and Kaka in the stands were regretful about Paqueta’s missed opportunity. But very quickly, Vinicius brought joy to Brazilian fans, when he coolly shot past goalkeeper Rodrigo Morínigo (Paraguay) to open the score 1-0 for Brazil in the 35th minute.
With a goal to relieve psychological pressure, the Brazilian players played better and better and continuously scored 2 more goals in the first half by Savio in the 43rd minute and Vinicius in the 45+5th minute to lead the opponent 3-0.
In the second 45 minutes, Paraguay played very hard and reduced the score to 1-3 in the 48th minute with a beautiful long-range shot from Alderete. But everything ended for Paraguay when Paqueta scored the winning goal 4-1 with a penalty kick in the 65th minute.

Colombia beat Costa Rica 3-0
Also in this series, Colombia defeated Costa Rica 3-0. Thus, Colombia won the first ticket to the quarterfinals with 6 points after two matches.
Brazil is ranked second with 4 points, they only need a draw against Colombia in the final round to secure a ticket. While Paraguay has been eliminated after 2 losses, Costa Rica has 1 point and still has a chance to compete for a ticket but the possibility is very low.
