HIT THE HOME RUN: Shohei Ohtani Acquires Luxurious La Cañada Flintridge Mansion for $7.8 Million

Shohei Ohtani, a former Angels two-way player and current Dodgers sensation, reportedly paid $7.85 million for a private estate in La Cañada Flintridge.

Built in 2013 on little less than an acre, Adam Carolla’s 7,327-square-foot tribute to mid-century modern and contemporary architecture features five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and facilities for entertainment, health, and fitness. The home was purchased on May 15 by an LLC run by Nez Balelo, Ohtani’s agent, according to records.

The sale was initially reported by the Los Angeles Times, which used public documents and an undisclosed source. Unnamed source acquainted with the sale but not participating in the agreement has also told Southern California News Group that the buyer is the Japanese baseball player.

Everyone connected to the deal has remained silent.

Citing non-disclosure agreements, listing agent Peter Owens of Douglas Elliman Real Estate declined to comment through a representative. An inquiry for comment was not answered by Ohtani’s agent, Jeanne Valvo of Coldwell Banker Realty.

The mansion is situated at the end of a long driveway, according to a house promotional video.

Inside, the open-plan living area is decorated with plenty of glass and accent walls with wood and stone panels. The home is flooded with natural light thanks to floor to ceiling windows, clerestories, and skylights, which also serve to highlight the mature oaks’ sculptural branches that encircle the property.

A kitchen, sport court, spa, exercise pit, and infinity-edge pool are among the outside amenities.

The main suite, which has a spacious walk-in closet, a spa-style soaking tub in the bathroom, and a lounging space in the bedroom, has a private terrace with views of the backyard.

According to public records, podcaster Adam Carolla is the seller. He paid $7.327 million for the house in 2018.

The host of “The Adam Carolla Show” podcast revealed to the Wall Street Journal that he and his ex-wife Lynette Paradise had renovated the main suite, the kitchen, and the movie theater when they offered the property in June 2023 for $8.99 million. After over 19 years of marriage, the pair filed for divorce in May 2021, and it was officially finalized on January 24.

According to People magazine, Carolla, 59, consented to give $4 million as part of an equalization settlement to the mother of his twin sons and daughter, who are both 17 years old. The settlement included the sale of their family home.

In October, Carolla, 59, reduced the asking price to $8.35 million. Five months after Ohtani signed a seven hundred million dollar, ten-year contract with the Dodgers, and departed the Angels, it closed for a price $50,000 less than the asking.

Ohtani, 29, was a designated hitter and pitcher for the Angels for six seasons. Since Bаbe Ruth in 1919, he has been the best MLB “two-way” player, having earned two American League MVP titles.
