In Arne Slot’s first unofficial match as Liverpool’s coach, the team will host Championship side Preston North End at the AXA Training Centre on Friday.
Journalist David Lynch reports that the game will be held behind closed doors, meaning it will not be available for television broadcast.
In recent years, Preston, managed by Ryan Lowe—a former Liverpool academy player and coach—has built a strong relationship with Liverpool.
Last season, Liverpool used Preston’s Deepdale Stadium to host SV Darmstadt 98 during pre-season due to ongoing renovations at Anfield. Moreover, Preston has loaned players such as Calvin Ramsay and Sepp van den Berg to Liverpool in recent seasons.
Lowe expressed enthusiasm earlier this week, saying, “We’re excited to have the chance to visit a Premier League training facility on Friday and play against a top Premier League team.”
“We have today and tomorrow for preparations, and on Thursday, we’ll engage in some activities at the training ground. Then, we’ll face a Premier League team and compete against them.”
Lowe also mentioned, “It will be beneficial for us, as we’ll likely have less possession. This scenario will help us in situations where we are not in control, and there will be many opportunities when we do have the ball in specific moments. We are looking forward to it.”
Liverpool will then face Spanish side Real Betis in Pittsburgh a week after their friendly against Preston.
The remainder of their US pre-season tour includes matches against Arsenal in Philadelphia and Manchester United in South Carolina. Slot will have his first chance to address the Anfield crowd before the August 11 match against Sevilla at Anfield.
