‘Truly amazing experience’ – Esports World Cup in Riyadh thrills Liverpool star Diogo Jota

Diogo Jota attended the Esports World Cup in Riyadh and was captivated by the experience.

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota was a major highlight at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh on Sunday. The event, recognized as the world’s largest gaming and esports festival, will continue until August 25 at Boulevard Riyadh City.

Diogo Jota chatted with players from the Saudi Arabian side Team Falcons

Jota expressed his excitement about the event, calling it “a truly amazing experience.” During his visit, the Portuguese star, who recently made headlines at Euro 2024, interacted with players from Saudi Arabia’s Team Falcons and shared insights about gaming and esports.

In addition to his enthusiasm for esports, Jota is a dedicated gamer and has invested in the multinational esports organization Galaxy Racer.

Jota’s gaming prowess is widely acknowledged. He achieved the top rank on the FIFA 21 Champions Leaderboard and is a frequent streamer on Twitch. Additionally, he won an invitational FIFA series organized by the Premier League during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jota also had his own esports team, originally known as Diogo Jota Esports, which was later rebranded as Luna Galaxy and now operates under the Galaxy Racer organization.

I’m excited to see how EWC continues to evolve and push the boundaries of competitive gaming.”

The inaugural Esports World Cup in Riyadh features over 1,500 players from over 60 nationalities.

The eight-week long tournament has a unique cross-game structure pitting the world’s top clubs and players against one another across 22 global competitions in 21 leading games.

It is being held within the 8,000-plus capacity SEF (Saudi Esports Federation) Arena at Boulevard Riyadh City. The tournament prize pool of $60 million is said to be the largest in the history of esports.
