Shohei Ohtani, a two-way superstar from Japan, recently responded in a touching way that touched baseball fans around. Every Los Angeles Dodgers player was asked to select their favorite athlete in a video that was posted to X/Twitter.
When Ohtani’s turn came, he answered,
“My wife.”
This reaction followed Ohtani’s February announcement of his marriage to the public, which went viral even though her identity was still unknown at the time. Once the rumors about his trade to the Dodgers subsided, Ohtani announced he had started a new life in his own nation.
Later on, it came to light that Mamiko Tanaka, his wife, is a skilled athlete in her own right. Up until 2023, the 27-year-old was a professional basketball player for the Fujitsu Red Wave in the Women’s Japan Basketball League.
Highlights of Tanaka’s career include playing a vital role for her team, particularly with her offensive rebounding and play-making abilities, and representing Japan in youth and collegiate games.
Born in Tokyo, Tanaka started his basketball career at Hino Daiichi Junior High School. She continued to play basketball throughout her collegiate career and finally entered the NBA, where she immediately established herself with the Fujitsu Red Wave.
Recently, Shohei Ohtani hit a huge 471-foot home shot.
On the field, Shohei Ohtani never ceases to astound teammates and fans. In a game against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, Ohtani blasted a huge 473-foot home run, which is the second-longest home run at Dodgers Stadium since the Statcast era started in 2015.
Ohtani’s incredible achievement cemented his place in baseball history since it was his 30th home run of the year. The Dodgers went on to win 9–6 and the series against Boston in three games.
The next assignment for Ohtani and company is a four-game series against the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium. On Monday, LA won the first game 3-2, extending their winning run. The Dodgers now lead the NL West standings with a (60-41) record for the season thanks to the victory.
Tuesday evening is when the second game is played.
