Liverpool are said to be interested in acquiring left-back Julio Soler from the Argentine club Lanus this summer.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Liverpool has reportedly reached out to Liga Profesional club Lanus in an effort to sign a left-back after observing Soler at the Olympics. Several top clubs are pursuing Soler during the summer transfer window following the 19-year-old’s impressive performances for Javier Mascherano’s Argentina team in Paris.
PANORAMA
The 19-year-old came through the Argentine club’s youth system and broke into the first team last season. He has since made 36 appearances for the club and is expected to be part of Lanus’ plans for the current campaign. Argentine journalist German Garcia Grova has reported that the Argentine club will accept a $15m (£12m) offer for Soler.
DO YOU KNOW?
Liverpool see Soler as a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson. Although the 30-year-old Scottish left-back remains the club’s preferred option, they are starting to think about the future and want to use Soler as a back-up option.
