Arne Slot highlighted Liverpool’s crucial transformation and addressed the current transfer situation during the press conference

The Dutch tactician offered some notable insights following Liverpool’s win over Ipswich Town. Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool had a strong start to the 2024/2025 Premier League season, securing a 2-0 victory in their opening match. Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah each made significant contributions in the second half, leading Liverpool to claim all three points.

Salah emerged as a standout player for Liverpool’s attack, providing a goal and an assist. Slot’s strategic adjustments during the second half proved effective, enhancing Liverpool’s performance and ensuring the win.

” I realised one thing, there are no easy matches in the Premier League. We need to perform well in the second half if we want to win. Liverpool lost too many one-on-one situations. Ipswich Town played strong and tough .”

“I’ve said it many times before; we have a really strong squad, and it’s not easy to find someone who can make us stronger. Martin Zubimendi was one of those players, but he decided not to come here, so we will continue with what we have, the players who performed very well in the preseason.

Richard [Hughes] is working hard behind the scenes to strengthen our squad as much as possible, but unfortunately, Zubimendi decided not to join us. Richard has made every effort to try and bring him in, but if a player doesn’t want to come, then clearly, he won’t. That’s it.

This squad was capable of winning the Premier League last year. Of course, we lost Matip, Thiago, and Adrian, but the rest remains the same. I don’t understand why people think that without new signings, we will fall behind. You can improve performance on the pitch through training, not necessarily through new players.

Perhaps you’re referring to other clubs that are bringing in new signings and getting stronger. But it’s not always the case that adding new players will make the squad stronger, because I believe every player needs time.

If you keep bringing in new players, sometimes the energy within the team can diminish. But as I’ve said many times, Richard and I are trying to strengthen our squad. If we think we’ve found someone, we will try to bring them in. And then, unfortunately, the player we thought could help us has said no.”
