Here we go! After a relatively quiet transfer window, Liverpool has finally made their first signing of the summer, bringing in goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpool has officially secured the signing of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, successfully recruiting him from Valencia.

According to Romano, Liverpool’s first signing of the summer transfer window is indeed Giorgi Mamardashvili. The club has agreed to pay a fee of 35 million euros, which includes a profit-sharing clause if the 23-year-old goalkeeper is sold in the future. Mamardashvili is set to undergo a medical examination before being officially unveiled as an Anfield player.

Interestingly, Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia until the end of the current season and will only move to England in July 2025.

Mamardashvili gained widespread recognition following his standout performance for Georgia at Euro 2024. Although Georgia was considered an underdog in the tournament, Mamardashvili delivered an exceptional display in goal, making crucial saves that allowed his teammates to excel, ultimately helping the Eastern European team reach the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time in their debut.

With the Georgian goalkeeper staying on loan at Valencia until next summer, there are concerns that this might lead to the departure of Alisson Becker, Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper for the past six years, despite his contract running until 2027.

However, in a recent interview with The Times, Alisson made it clear that he has no plans to leave Anfield despite Mamardashvili’s impending arrival.

The Brazilian goalkeeper stated: “The club needs to plan for the future. We won’t be here forever, and I’m getting older too! But for a goalkeeper, I’m still young, full of energy, and I have a lot more to give to this club. I want to contribute as much as I can.

The club will do the same for other positions. We have several important players with contracts nearing their end, and the club needs to plan and organize for the future. I think it’s a smart move. I was aware of it before it surfaced on social media, and it’s reassuring because it shows the club values my opinion.”
