Mohamed Salah once again dominated Manchester United and later acknowledged that this might be his final appearance at Old Trafford as a Liverpool player.
Salah assisted the first two goals for Luis Diaz and scored the third himself in a 3-0 victory, continuing his remarkable record of scoring in each of his last seven visits to Old Trafford, with a total of 10 goals in those games. Overall, the Egyptian star has netted 15 goals in 16 matches against United.
However, with Salah now in the final year of his contract at Anfield, he admitted that his future remains uncertain. “I was coming to the game thinking, ‘this could be the last time (at Old Trafford),'” he said.
“No one from the club has talked to me yet about a contract. It’s not up to me; it’s up to the club, but we’ll see what happens.
“As you know, this is my last year with the club. I just want to enjoy it and not think too much about the contract situation. I feel free to play football, and we’ll see what happens next year.”
Arne Slot became the first Liverpool manager since Bob Paisley in 1975 to win his debut league match against Manchester United, and the first to achieve this feat at Old Trafford since George Kay in 1936.
When asked if this was the biggest win of his coaching career, the former Feyenoord boss responded, “I’m not entirely sure if everyone in the Netherlands would agree, but people worldwide recognize this as a bigger game.
“It was special to be part of, but it’s only special if you win. Everything you’d want to see as a manager was on display in this game.”
On the other hand, it was a tough experience for his Dutch counterpart, Erik ten Hag, who now faces more scrutiny regarding his ability to lead United forward.
“I don’t want to talk about positives,” Ten Hag said. “There are some, but we have to accept this defeat. It hurts, especially for our fans. We have to be humble.
“All three goals came from our mistakes, individual errors, and Liverpool were clinical in their finishing.”
