Real Madrid’s Arda Güler played the full 90 minutes for Turkey in their UEFA Nations League match against Iceland, where he grabbed a beautiful assist to help his country get a 3-1 win over Iceland.
After picking up a knock against Wales on Friday, it was a doubt whether Güler will start or even play against Iceland — but it turns out he was fit enough to play, as he started on the right wing.
Güler, after a slow-ish first half, came to life in the second where he was at the centre of a bunch of chances made by Turkey, one of which directly resulted in a goal. He had a pretty good showing overall, with four key passes to show for it.
He was much more involved in the buildup this time around, recording 70 passes, 84 touches, completing six out of seven long balls, and just generally dropping deep on multiple occasions to help out in the buildup.
Güler — who also completed three dribbles — also kept swapping positions with his fellow forwards. Because of that, we saw him playing as a 10 — which is where he was when he recorded his third assist in his last four international appearances. Defensively, though, there was nothing to write home about, as Turkey dominated the game from start to finish.
