Roy Keane praised Trent Alexander-Arnold for his standout performance in England’s 2-0 win over Finland.
On Tuesday, the Three Lions played at Wembley for the first time in over eight years without Gareth Southgate as manager.
Harry Kane, making his 100th international appearance, captained England, while Lee Carsley once more chose Alexander-Arnold to start as the right-back.
The Liverpool player lived up to Carsley’s trust with a strong performance, emerging as a key attacking force and assisting with Kane’s opening goal.
Post-match, Keane emphasized that Alexander-Arnold’s passing skills set him apart from many of his contemporaries in world football.
“When you give top players time and space on the ball, their decision-making and the quality of their passes stand out,” Keane noted. “That pass from Trent was absolutely brilliant and effective, and not many players can execute it.”
Under Southgate, Alexander-Arnold had often been sidelined and only started two games at Euro 2024, as Southgate experimented with deploying him in midfield.
Carsley’s tenure could signal a new chapter for the 25-year-old in international football. The interim manager commended Alexander-Arnold’s ability to control the game from deeper positions.
“We played Trent in a slightly different role, along with Rico [Lewis],” Carsley said. “You can see Trent’s range of passing and his ability to control the game from deeper areas and advance forward. It’s no surprise, as I’ve seen him do this for Liverpool throughout his career and this season.”
