UNYIELDING DEFENSE: Van Dijk has consistently been a standout performer in maximum defensive efforts, but De Ligt’s poor moments on the field led to a draw with Germany

The Netherlands had prepared well for this match and after only 2 minutes they opened the scoring from a transition. Brobbey made a wall for Gravenberch to pass, Indonesian midfielder Reijnders broke through and beat Ter Stegen in a one-on-one.

Germany pressed forward in search of an equaliser, but apart from Havertz’s strike in the 11th minute, the visitors were at a loss against a packed defence.

The Netherlands should have led 2-0, but Dumfries headed wide in an open position, before Simons was denied by Ter Stegen after a long through ball from Gravenberch.

But at the end of the first half, things suddenly turned around. In the 38th minute, De Ligt made a bad pass in his own half and Undav quickly scored the equalizer for Germany after Verbruggen blocked Wirtz’s shot. In the 45+3rd minute, Kimmich sneaked close to the goal to tap the ball in to give Germany a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Brobbey was too strong from the start of the match, causing Jonathan Tah to be shown a yellow card. In the second half, in the 50th minute, this striker had a “body-crushing” move with Schlotterbeck near the German goal.

The away team paid too much attention to Brobbey, so Dumfries was missed, who quietly swooped in to cushion the ball from Brobbey’s cross to tie the score at 2-2.

However, Germany regained control of the game not long after, Havertz shot over the bar from close range in the 52nd minute. In the 70th minute, he crossed the ball for Raum to head when he was not marked, but Raum sent the ball over the bar.

Both teams played very cautiously in the last 20 minutes and there were no really clear chances. The draw left both teams with 4 points after 2 matches, Germany temporarily leading the table due to a better goal difference.
