L’Equipe has reported that Trent Alexander-Arnold has entered discussions to potentially acquire Nantes, a club currently competing in France’s Ligue 1.
The Liverpool player’s interest comes as Nantes’ owner, Waldemar Kita, is reportedly frustrated with the club’s financial challenges. Kita, who has owned Nantes since 2007, is seeking a resolution to the situation.
According to the report, 25-year-old Michael Arnold, who operates an investment firm in London, initiated contact with Kita through a video call last summer. Since then, they have continued talks, meeting in Geneva and London.
Arnold has put forward a proposal to purchase the club for €100 million, with €80 million to be paid upfront and the remaining €20 million covered by seller’s credit. This offer would allow Kita to recoup much of his investment in the club.
Currently, Alexander-Arnold holds a minority stake in the Alpine Formula 1 team, part of a high-profile investor group that includes Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, Anthony Joshua, and Rory McIlroy. His interest in Nantes signals a move into football club ownership.
Nantes are currently 5th in the Ligue 1 standings after 4 games, with 2 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss.
Last season, they narrowly avoided relegation, finishing 14th. If Alexander-Arnold’s bid is successful, he would join the ranks of the youngest football club owners, following the example of Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe, who invested €18 million to become the largest shareholder of Ligue 2 side Caen.
