Pep Guardiola gives good news about De Bruyne, excited for Foden to play Arsenal
Speaking at a press conference before the match, coach Pep Guardiola revealed that Kevin De Bruyne could still play in the match against Arsenal after 2 days of rest. As known, the Belgian midfielder suffered a groin injury in the first half of Man City’s goalless draw with Inter Milan in the Champions League in midweek and was replaced by Ilkay Gundogan at half-time.
The Spanish strategist said: “De Bruyne feels a little better today… Tomorrow we will train and we will see. He can play.”
If he cannot play, De Bruyne will become the third Man City player to miss the match due to injury. Oscar Bobb had surgery on a broken leg in August and is expected to be out for up to 4 months. Meanwhile, Nathan Ake sidelined with a hamstring injury he picked up on Netherlands duty earlier this month.
Manager Pep Guardiola also confirmed that Phil Foden, who replaced De Bruyne in midweek, could play the full 90 minutes after a disrupted start to the season. The England international missed the start of the campaign through illness.
The 53-year-old said: “Every player needs a break and a rest. Foden has had some problems in the last few weeks, but he played a good 45 minutes in midweek. Foden was the best player last season and now he is to get back.
Look at his intensity and his movement in the opposition half, he is one of the best players in the world. You can imagine how happy I am to have him back.”
As for Arsenal, coach Pep Guardiola assessed: “You have to score in many situations, and from set pieces it is not easy. Arsenal are higher than us, they have quick transitions and a very strong defense.
Arsenal have incredible wingers and Gabriel and Saliba will always focus on Haaland. That is why it is difficult to their defense. Since the beginning of 2024, Arsenal have not lost away from home. Not just 1 or 2 games, they have always played consistently and not conceded.
I am looking forward to it and every game is an opportunity to play better and do better than the previous game. When the opponent plays better, you always have the opportunity to improve.”
