Defender Raphael Varane is reportedly considering retiring from football, despite only signing for Como this summer.
Recently, according to information from Le Parisien, defender Raphael Varane is said to be about to announce his retirement from football in the near future. The reason for the 31-year-old player to consider this is the knee injury he suffered last month, when he debuted in the first round of the Italian Cup against Sampdoria for Como. After announcing the injury a few weeks ago, Como removed his name from the list of players eligible to play in Serie A.

Varane only joined Como this summer after leaving Man Utd on a free transfer, and the French defender’s current contract has two years left. Witnessing Varane’s injury, Como’s coach said: “I’m sorry for him, Varane has suffered many injuries throughout his career. It seems to be a knee injury this time, but I can’t say more, I need to check with the doctor first.”
Varane has also been known for his injury problems in the past. While playing for Real Madrid, he suffered from muscle, hamstring and knee injuries, which kept him out for weeks and even months. Since moving to Man Utd in 2021, the French defender has continued to face health problems, especially thigh and ankle injuries. His most recent injury was to his knee in his first match for Como, and this has once again put Varane’s career in trouble.

In terms of titles, Varane is one of the players who has owned most of the major and minor titles in his career. The 31-year-old defender has won the UEFA Champions League 4 times with Real Madrid (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018) and 3 La Liga titles. During his time at Man Utd, Varane also won 1 Carabao Cup and 1 FA Cup.
In the French national team, this central defender has played 93 times, scored 5 goals and helped Les Bleus win the 2018 World Cup.
