Major Victory at Anfield: Liverpool mounted a comeback to overcome West Ham in the English League Cup, scoring two quick goals within three minutes

Liverpool FC staged an emphatic comeback, overturning a deficit to crush West Ham 5-1 in the English League Cup.

On a remarkable evening at Anfield, Liverpool asserted their dominance by dismantling West Ham 5-1 in the Carabao Cup round of 16. The second half, in particular, saw The Reds unleash a ruthless offensive display, netting four goals.

The match began with Liverpool controlling possession and creating chances, but it was West Ham who took a surprise lead in the 21st minute when Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah inadvertently scored an own goal.

However, Liverpool responded swiftly. Just four minutes later, Diogo Jota leveled the score at 1-1 after a brilliant buildup play. The Portuguese forward raced into the box to meet a Federico Chiesa cross and expertly fired a shot into the top left corner, leaving the West Ham goalkeeper with no chance.

The first half concluded at 1-1, but Liverpool’s true dominance unfolded after the break.

Liverpool seized the lead in the 49th minute when Curtis Jones floated a precise cross to Jota in the box. The striker took control and powered a shot into the center of the goal, putting Liverpool ahead 2-1.

Relentlessly attacking, Liverpool extended their advantage in the 74th minute. Substitute Mohamed Salah was quick to capitalize on a rebound in the box, smashing the ball into the roof of the net to make it 3-1.

West Ham’s situation worsened when Edson Alvarez was sent off in the 76th minute after a second yellow card for a reckless challenge, leaving his team a man down.

With a numerical advantage, Liverpool continued to pile on the pressure, and Cody Gakpo emerged as the standout performer with two goals in the final minutes.

In the 90th minute, Gakpo latched onto a perfect pass at the edge of the box and fired a low shot into the left corner, bringing the score to 4-1. Just minutes later, in stoppage time, he dazzled with a clever dribble past multiple defenders before his shot deflected off a West Ham player and into the net, sealing a commanding 5-1 victory.
