Liverpool secured a 2-0 victory against Bologna in the second round of the Champions League, with Mohamed Salah delivering an outstanding performance, scoring a goal and providing an assist.
Following their triumph over AC Milan in the opening round, Liverpool returned to Anfield to face another Italian opponent, Bologna. The Reds easily claimed the win against the struggling Serie A side.
Salah was the standout player, contributing both a goal and an assist. His performance set a new record, as he became the first Liverpool player to score in five consecutive home matches in the Champions League. This was also his 45th goal in the competition for Liverpool, surpassing Chelsea legend Didier Drogba’s tally of 44 goals.
Liverpool made only one change to the lineup from their recent win over Wolves, with Darwin Nunez replacing Diogo Jota as the main striker.
With a stable lineup, Liverpool applied early pressure on Bologna. Although Dallinga appeared to score for Bologna in the 8th minute, the goal was ruled out for offside. Just three minutes later, Liverpool capitalized, with Mac Allister finishing off Salah’s cross to put them 1-0 ahead.
In the 15th minute, Nunez found the net, but his goal was also disallowed for offside. Both sides created several chances throughout the match, with Bologna coming close twice.
In the second half, Liverpool continued to dominate but narrowly avoided conceding when Orsolini’s shot was saved by Alisson in the 56th minute. Salah later came close with a trademark curling effort, but it went just wide.
In the 75th minute, Salah sealed the win with a well-placed shot after cutting inside from the right wing, securing the 2-0 scoreline for Liverpool.
