He was included with Thibaut Courtois and Yassine Bounou on a three-person shortlist for the goalkeeping award.

Ederson, 30, grinned broadly at the Apollo Theatre in London when he accepted his trophy.

Alongside his wife Lais and their three children, Yasmin, Laura, and Henrique, the Brazilian made an appearance on the green carpet.

At the occasion, Ederson and Lais looked great in their tuxedos, with the City star’s wife looking lovely in a black dress.

Following the goalkeeper’s triumph, the delighted pair took a picture with the trophy and shared it on Instagram.

Lais tweeted: “Congratulations my love @ederson93, you deserve all the recognition for your work we love you.”

Ederson expressed his gratitude to his manager in particular after accepting his prize.

“It is a great honor to win this award, and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me,” he stated.

“I’m honored to have been voted by my fellow professionals as the greatest goalkeeper in the world.

Without my teammates, Pep Guardiola, and the entire coaching staff, it would not be possible.

“I must also express my gratitude to my fellow goalkeepers and the goalkeeping coaches for their invaluable assistance and support.

“It was an incredible year, one we will never forget, and now we will keep working hard to try to keep on delivering more success.”

To the dismay of Erling Haaland’s father, Lionel Messi was awarded men’s player of the year at Wednesday night’s The Best Awards.

Since the Argentine was not present, Thierry Henry, his old Barcelona teammate, accepted the trophy in his place.

A good night was had by several of Ederson’s city colleagues as well.

Pep Guardiola took up the Best Coach award, while Messi barely defeated Erling Haaland to win Best Men’s player.

Haaland, along with Ruben Dias, John Stones, Kyle Walker, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva, were six City players who made the best XI.
