After Greece vs. Spain, NBA Star Makes Giannis Antetokounmpo Statement
Greek player Giannis Antetokounmpo, a prominent player for the Milwaukee Bucks, is competing in the Paris Olympics. Despite the two-time MVP’s strong play in Paris, his club has lost both of its Group Phase matches. This includes a Tuesday loss to Spain, a game in which Antetokounmpo scored the most points—27—to lead the entire team.
With 19 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and three blocks in the game, Memphis Grizzlies forward Santi Aldama was Spain’s main player. Aldama, an NBA veteran, is leading Spain’s team at the Olympics and proved it with this decisive victory over Spain.
Despite having a strong individual game that helped his team win, Aldama was the victim of a Giannis Antetokounmpo dunk. Aldama was placed on a poster after being late to challenge the Bucks player at the rim:
After the game, Aldama discussed Antetokounmpo with reporters, as reported by BasketNews: “For us, it was just packing the paint, being physical, and being in front of him. There’s no true strategy.” He’s a fantastic player and an MVP, however many times over. There’s no way to put an end to him. As I have stated, I believe the term “courage” best captures the essence of the game.”
Aldama said to BasketNews following Antetokounmpo’s dunk, “Posters and all this kind of stuff, it’s tough, especially with a guy like him.” All you do is attempt to play defense. You have two options: move aside or attempt to block the shot. I tried, but you probably only block it once every ten times.”
