Manager Arne Slot has voiced concern over the hamstring injury sustained by goalkeeper Alisson during Liverpool’s narrow 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, stating that it will sideline him for several weeks. The Brazilian goalkeeper has also been ruled out of the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Liverpool’s hard-earned win was secured by Diogo Jota’s early goal, keeping them at the top of the Premier League after seven matches. However, the team now faces injury issues with both Alisson and midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, who was substituted midway through the match due to a groin issue.
Alisson had already missed the 3-0 win against Bournemouth due to injury and was forced off in the 79th minute at Selhurst Park with a hamstring problem.
As a result, he has been excluded from Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers. Liverpool is set to encounter a challenging series of fixtures after the international break, and Slot fears that Alisson will miss key matches, including the home clash with Chelsea on 20 October and the away game at RB Leipzig in the Champions League on 23 October.
Slot remarked, “When a player comes off like that, it’s often a sign he won’t be part of the Brazil squad, and I don’t expect him to be ready for the first game after the break. I think he’ll be out for a few weeks.”
With second-choice goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher unavailable due to illness, third-choice Vitezslav Jaros made his Liverpool debut at Crystal Palace, stepping in for Alisson. Slot expressed confidence in Kelleher’s ability to fill the gap, despite Jaros’s brief appearance: “Alisson is our number one, the best in the world, so it’s a huge loss for him and the team.
But Caoimhin has proven to be a very reliable second-choice keeper. He performed well the last time Alisson was out, and it was nice to see Jaros contribute today.” Mac Allister was substituted at halftime, and Slot commented, “He felt something and decided it was best not to continue. We’re still evaluating the situation, but it’s uncertain if he’ll be fit for Argentina’s upcoming matches.”
