Diogo Jota has become the first Liverpool player to speak out about Jurgen Klopp’s new position. Klopp, now appointed as the Head of Global Football at Red Bull, will begin his role in January after resigning as Liverpool manager at the end of last season.
During an interview with the Portuguese news agency Record over the international break, Jota shared his thoughts on his former coach:
“Klopp? He’s someone I have a lot of admiration for, and we must respect his decision. I wish him all the best in this new chapter.”
The Champions League and Premier League-winning manager, who has spent a quiet summer at his villa in Mallorca, has made it clear he has no intentions of returning to management, though he remains active in football.
Klopp’s contract with Red Bull reportedly includes a release clause that would allow him to manage the German national team in the future, should the opportunity present itself.
Klopp’s new role has stirred some controversy. In Germany, Borussia Dortmund fans are questioning his loyalty to the club now that he will be supporting rivals RB Leipzig. Red Bull also sponsors teams such as Austria’s Red Bull Salzburg, the New York Red Bulls in the US, and Brazilian club Red Bull Bragantino.
