NOBLE INITIATIVE: Liverpool player Ryan Gravenberch opened a football pitch after being honored with the Johan Cruijff Talent Award, aiming to motivate children to participate in the sport

At the Cruyff Court Betondorp, the local pitch where Johan played football as a child near his parents’ home, Ryan Gravenberch was honored with the prestigious Johan Cruijff Talent of the Year award for the Eredivisie 2020-2021 season.

Since 2003, the Johan Cruijff Award has been presented to the Talent of the Year. Through this award, Cruijff aims to motivate young footballers to strive for better futures and help them create a positive social impact.

The Johan Cruyff Foundation offers the winner the opportunity to establish a Cruyff Court at a location of their choice. This initiative allows vulnerable young people to participate in accessible sports, promoting their mental, social, and physical development.

The talented 19-year-old midfielder from Ajax was nearly unanimously selected by a panel of 14 esteemed experts. In addition to their footballing skills, the Premier League players were evaluated based on Johan Cruijff’s 14 principles, including team spirit and responsibility.

The jury highlighted Ryan’s significant contribution to Ajax at such a young age and commended his remarkable and rapid development.
