Arsenal have triumphed over Liverpool in their last two Premier League meetings at the Emirates Stadium. However, their chances of repeating this success are uncertain ahead of this week’s matchup.
Liverpool has been in excellent form, winning seven out of their eight games this season, whereas Arsenal recently faced a surprising loss to Bournemouth.
Adding to Arsenal’s challenges, they are dealing with several injuries and suspensions, forcing Mikel Arteta to adapt his lineup. Ben White has been moved to center-back alongside Gabriel, while Thomas Partey has been filling in at right-back.
A bright spot for Arsenal has been the return of Bukayo Saka and Justin Timber from injury. Timber put in a strong performance, nearly shutting down Mohamed Salah, while Saka brought energy on the right wing in the first half. Impressively, he scored the game’s first goal with Arsenal’s opening shot in the 9th minute.
White delivered a long pass behind Liverpool’s defense, allowing Saka to sprint down the right side, slot the ball between Andy Robertson’s legs, and fire it past Caoimhin Kelleher into the top of the net. At just 23 years and 52 days old, Saka became the youngest Arsenal player to reach 50 Premier League goals.
The England winger has been a key contributor this season, tallying three goals and seven assists across eight league appearances.
In Arsenal’s early opener, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk’s positioning error played a part. Pushing too high up the field, he left Saka unmarked on the right, allowing the Arsenal star to exploit the gap, bypass Robertson, and skillfully score past Kelleher.
