Phil Foden has not fully recovered after an overloaded season
Being “drained” last season has prevented Phil Foden from regaining his best form in the early stages of this season.
Phil Foden shares the reason for the slow start to the season
Last season, Phil Foden played excellently and was rewarded with the title of England’s best player of the year. However, this season, the striker born in 2000 has started relatively slowly. In early October, coach Pep Guardiola admitted that Foden has not reached his highest level.
Since the beginning of the season, Foden has only played 9 times for Man City, contributing 2 goals and 1 assist. However, the player born in 2000 has only started 1 match in the Carabao Cup. According to Foden, having to work too hard last season has affected the striker’s physical condition.
Foden said: “I had to play too many games last season and in every game I tried my best. So this season, I returned to play with more or less fatigue. This is normal.
Last season, there were times when I felt very tired after continuous matches. Many small factors accumulated and then affected me. But for everyone who has experienced this, it can be considered two sides of football.
Even Rodri could not avoid being tired when returning and many other players are the same. When a player has to play too many games, there will come a time when the body becomes overloaded. At the moment, I am still calculating reasonably, trying my best to regain the best physical condition soon.
There are always obstacles in the training and playing process of me and many teammates. But I am still happy because I can finally return and enjoy the football I want.”
Last season, Foden played 69 matches for both England and Man City. The player born in 2000 was also allowed to join the team late after EURO 2024 by coach Pep Guardiola.
